Meet Doreen and John. Last weekend these two lovebirds celebrated 50 years of marriage with their family and friends! I received a phone call from their son, Kelly, inquiring about a portrait shoot as a gift for his parents. He pointed out that they’re relatives of Kendra and Jordan (a wedding you can find on the blog in April) and were in attendance at that wedding. Immediately, it rung a bell - I remembered Doreen and John quite vividly as they tore up the dance floor at Kendra and Jordan’s reception making the youngsters look lazy! They lived up to my memories of them as they made snazzy and energetic subjects for the camera and proved that after 50 years of marriage, two people can be as happy and loving as ever. Here’s some of the photos.
We started shooting at their home on Edmonton’s south side. Doreen and John needed very little encouragement to smooch.

Relaxing together ……….. on the driveway.
John looks a little mischievious in this one.
We headed off to the Royal Museum to take advantage of some great late evening light and got some family shots in right away.

The family applauds Doreen and John for the big kiss they just shared.
I focused on Doreen and John for the remainder of the shoot.

They tore up the street at the museum just as they did at the wedding.

John and Doreen, you two are as spunky and fun to shoot as any engaged or married couple I’ve photographed. Thank you for a great shoot this evening. And congratulations on what must’ve been an amazing 50 years - here’s hoping for many more anniversarys to come! Cheers!
The Victoria Day long weekend was a special one for Mary and Paul. You might remember them from there engagement ceremony and subsequent engagement shoot last fall. On Saturday, these two were married in front of masses of joyous family and friends. An early taste of sunny and hot weather gave the wedding a summery feel and the celebratory mood made the day a huge success.
Fun, laughter, nervousness, and excitement were all apparent as Mary prepared for the big day in her family home.
The couple tied the knot at St. Mary and St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church on Edmonton’s south side. Below are some takes from the ceremony.
Formal photos took us to the Muttart Conservatory grounds followed by Strathern Drive and the Royal Alberta Museum. Here are a few of the formals beginning with a portrait of the beautiful bride.
The reception was held at the Fantasy Land Hotel in West Edmonton Mall. The evening began with a fine meal and heart warming speeches that had the newlyweds howling with laughter and wiping happy tears away.
Paul and Mary shared their first dance shortly after.
Followed by the bride and her father.
And then it was party time! This group knows how to throw a wedding celebration…
At the end of the evening the couple stepped out for some air … but got distracted.
Thank you for the opportunity to share in your big day, Mary and Paul. I feel priveleged to have been allowed to document and observe the unique cultural aspects of your day while feeling the energy and excitement of you and your family. Having now spent many hours shooting you two in a variety of situations, I can safely say that you two make a perfect couple.
Have a fantastic honeymoon - I’ll see you when you get back. Cheers!
Meghan and Joel met on May 11 … 1998. Today, ten years later, the couple (finally! :)) became husband and wife at an intimate ceremony in Edmonton’s Citidel Theatre. With their immediate family and two children present, the ceremony was short and sweet with vows exchanged that have already stood the test of time.
With the beautiful bride arriving a few minutes before the start of the ceremomy, we used the time for some bridal portraiture at the Citadel.
Meghan and Joel make their way to the ceremony site in the Lee Pavillion.
And the ceremony begins.
The great thing about a short guest list is that everyone can get in on the big group shot.
The entire gang smiles for the camera below.
Before leaving the Citadel, the couple took a moment to reflect on their nuptials.
The next stop was the Alberta Legislature for some formals. Below, Meghan and Joel pose with their two cute kids - Kyra and Riley.
From there we roamed the grounds and focused on the newlyweds.
Meghan and Joel, thank you for making me a part of your big day. If the last decade is any indication, you two are in for a long and happy marriage with a great family to start it all off. Best wishes now and in the future. Cheers!
On Saturday, I had the pleasure of doing a ceremony and formals shoot with Lee-Ann and Brad. The fun loving couple exchanged their vows in the Anglican Church of St. Michael in Fort Edmonton Park - a church originally active in 1910. Laughter, happy tears, and some decent weather made for a fantastic wedding day.
The beautiful bride poses for a portrait before the ceremony.
And makes an entrace with her mom.
Being in a century old church added a vintage feel to the ceremony. Lee-Ann and Brad’s obviously deep connection made it a special event.
After the ceremony we headed outside to 1905 street for some formal shots. Below, the wedding party jumps while Brad does his best Fonzarelli impression.
Lee-Ann and her lovely bridesmaids offer smiles for the camera.
We visited various locations in the park for some vintage style shots.
And stopped off for a final one as Brad couldn’t resist the playground.
Thank you Lee-Ann and Brad for sharing your day with me. I had alot of fun stalking you two with the camera - and you two made it sing. All best in the future! Cheers!
