Jessica and Allen - Wedding Day

Watchers of this blog will surely remember Jessica and Allen. Their fantastic engagement shoot last fall can be viewed here and their tea ceremony is in the post right below! Last Saturday, the couple’s big day arrived. The weather was blazingly hot and sunny and the festive group of family and friends was treated to a stylish wedding that was pure fun from start to end. Here are some photos from the day.

Jessica prepared for the day through the early morning at her home in North Edmonton.

At 11:00am, she was escorted down the isle at the North Edmonton Alliance Church.

With a kiss, the marriage begins!

Immediately after the ceremony, the wedding party hit the food court at Londonderry mall for a bite to eat. Never get between a hungry bride and her sub.

This wedding party had some serious jumping skills (Jessica is actually up in the air (the dress is hiding a great move I’m sure)).

The weather was super hot and the day’s ladies fit right in.

The beautiful bride poses for some portraits.

We headed downtown for some more formals.

After this shot, I asked the wedding party to make a funny face.

The reception was at the Radisson Hotel on Calgary Trail. While it appears that the maid of honour was fully in support of Jessica taking a bite out of Allen’s face, the best man raised an objection.

Allen’s epic proposal was re-enacted by the bridesmaids.

Oh no you didn’t!

The first dance looked to be a pretty typical…

… until the music changed and the couple showed some moves.

Poor Allen - he was spitting out leg hair for hours.

Oh no you didn’t!

The party was on at the end of the night as the newlyweds and their guests hit the dance floor.

You pulled off a pretty incredible wedding, Jessica and Allen. Thanks a ton for letting me be a part of it! Enjoy your honeymoon and we’ll see you soon. Congratulations and cheers!

Jessica and Allen - Tea Ceremony

Late last September Jessica and Allen joined me for an autumn engagement session in Elk Island Park. Great weather, a great locale, and - most of all - a fantastic couple had that session finding it’s way into the semi-permanent engagement galleries on the main website. We had alot of laughs during that shoot so it was with great anticipation that I awaited their big day. On Friday, the couple held a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at their North Edmonton home. The tradition is both significant and important to the culture. The soon-to-be bride and groom present a cup of tea - a sign of respect and appreciation - to family members. In return, they receive ‘lucky red envelopes’ containing gifts for the couple and a show of love and well wishes. Here are a few photos from the event.

One of Allen’s friends (and groomsmen) seems to have forgotten that he was coming for more than a beer and a hockey game.

Jessica’s mom receives a comforting hug from the soon-to-be bride.

With the ceremony complete, the couple enjoys a bit of fresh air.

The wedding post is up next!

Kirsten and Scott - Wedding Day

It feels like only yesterday that I had a blast doing a Jasper engagement shoot with Kirsten and Scott. Six weeks have passed and their big day arrived on Saturday. When you add this fun couple to a crowd of crazy happy guests, you end up with a truly great wedding day. From the ceremony to the end of the very party like reception, a great time was had by everyone involved. Here are some of the photos.

Kirsten got ready for the day at the Hotel MacDonald.

I took a few portraits of the beautiful bride just outside the hotel.

The ceremony went off a short time later at the home of another Edmonton photographer - Con Boland. His river valley home is known as Con Boland Gardens and makes for a great ceremony location.

A kiss begins the marriage.

After doing some family portraits in the gardens, the wedding party and I were off to the Royal Museum for some formals.

The lovely duo of Kirsten and her sister Heike smile for the camera.

The reception was held at Murrieta’s on Whyte Avenue which was closed to the public on Saturday evening. Having never shot their before, I found the place to make a great reception venue! Great food, great service, great decor, and a great crowd.

The reception was informal and deliciously fun. Instead of an official program of speeches and events, the evening flowed along on its own with alot of mingling and happy banter.

Their was even some old fashioned note passing going on at the head table.

When the couple went outside for some fresh air on the lovely summer evening, their photographer followed!

The cake was cut.

And a very impressive first dance went off. Scott got some coaching and practice time at various points throughout the night from the very dance-skilled Kirsten. He did a fine job when the big moment came!

A kiss outside Murrieta’s ended the evening.

Thanks for making me a part of your big day, Kirsten and Scott. You two managed an amazing wedding day and great start to the many happy years ahead for you. Congratulations and cheers!

Andrea and Sheldon - Wedding Day

Late last fall, I had the pleasure of doing an engagement shoot with Andrea and Sheldon soon after Sheldon returned from a posting in Afghanistan with the Canadian military. On Saturday, family and friend’s celebrated the couples wedding as they tied the knot in downtown Edmonton. The couple’s love and atteniveness to each other made the event a warm experience for all. Here are some of the photos.

The day began with Andrea and her bridesmaids preparing for the day at Andrea’s parents home.

Dad get his first look at the bride in her dress.

The beautiful bride poses for a portrait.

Escorted by mom and dad, Andrea makes her entrance at St. Joseph’s Basilica.

The marriage beings with a kiss.

We left for the Royal Museum after the ceremony. Shortly after we arrived, a thunderstorm paused the shoot. We waited it out and even saw some sunshine when it was all over. Below, the wedding party shows some sexy.

Kissing while holding back laughter is no easy feat.

The orange van is something of a family heirloom and represented the wedding wheels for the day.

The day’s lovely ladies pose for the camera.

The reception was held at the Norwood legion. Andrea shows some skilled dipping technique.

The couple reacts to one of many charming speeches.

The cake was cut.

And the couple shared their first dance.

Thanks for making me a part of your wedding day, Andrea and Sheldon. It was a pleasure working with you from start to finish and I wish you a happy marriage for years to come. Congratulations and cheers!
